Strategic’s April Employees of the Month

Every month, the employees at Strategic Communications are given the opportunity to acknowledge exemplary colleagues within or outside their department. Three individuals were chosen by their coworkers for their commitment to customer service, perseverance in the face of challenges, and can-do attitudes!

Steven Barousse | Technology Program & Contracts Manager

• How long have you worked for Strategic Communications?

I’ve worked at Strategic for ~3 years.  I came onboard initially Feb. 2019 and recently returned after a year away.

• What was your background prior to Strategic?

I started my career as a Broadcast Engineer while on active duty in the Air Force.  I’ve worked in the same capacity at Churchill Downs, White House Communications Agency, and Scripps Networks / Discovery before joining Strategic.  I’ve since moved into a program management role, but my technical background has allowed me to be successful throughout my career

What aspect of your job do you find the most rewarding or fulfilling?

Working at Strategic has provided the opportunity to see many great projects take shape.  I’m a planner by nature so I really enjoy bringing projects come to life. 

• What is the best career lesson you have learned so far?

The most important lesson I’ve learned in my career is that if it isn’t in documented in writing, it doesn’t exist! 

• Outside of work what are you passionate about?

I enjoy spending time with my family, working on projects at our cabin, and spending as much time as I can outdoors canoeing, fishing, grilling, etc.

What is your current favorite TV Show, Podcast, or Book that you’d like to share with the world?

My oldest daughter recently became interested in Bushcraft and we’ve been watching ‘Life Below Zero’ learning about subsistence lifestyles of people living near the Arctic Circle.

• What is something that people may not know about you?

I grew up in a very large family in Southwest Louisiana where family reunions regularly have over 200 people.  My Great-Great-Great Grandfather Pierre Omer ‘Homer’ Barousse was a Louisiana State Senator in the late 1800s / early 1900s and was a friend to the infamous Huey P. Long

• How long have you worked for Strategic Communications?

I’ve been with the company for a bit longer than 5 years now.

• What is your favorite project that you’ve worked on at Strategic?

Hard to pick just one, but any of the projects through our CHESS contracts are always enjoyable

• What does your dream vacation look like?

An all-inclusive Maldives island resort on the beach

• Who is your favorite musical artist, and what was the first concert you attended?   

Favorite would be Rush/Geddy Lee. My first concert was the Bob Hope USO Christmas special in 1987 in the Persian Gulf

• How would your family, friends, or coworkers describe you in three words?

Friendly, Courteous, Helpful

What is your current favorite TV Show, Podcast, or Book that you’d like to share with the world?

Latest Adventure is YouTube channel with Matt Wolfe which covers all the latest news and programs around AI.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your Job?

The most rewarding aspect of my job is working for a company that truly appreciates its employees

What does your dream vacation look like?

New Zealand, Monaco, Anselmo or Capri with a cool breeze and a bottle of prosecco

Who is your favorite musical artist, and what was the first concert you attended?   

I have a lot of favorite artists as I listen to a lot of genres and languages. My first concert was The Beastie Boys.

How would your family, friends, or coworkers describe you in three words?

Inquisitive, Realist, & Bold

What is your current favorite TV Show, Podcast, or Book that you’d like to share with the world?

I’d recommend the TV show The Expanse and the podcast Military Murder
