Microsoft Surface Enterprise Management Mode (SEMM) allows IT administrators to secure and manage devices at the firmware level. With the recently announced Device Firmware Configuration Interface (DFCI) you can now secure and manage these settings over the cloud with MS Intune.
In addition to the ability to configure UEFI settings, SEMM also uses a certificate to protect the configuration from unauthorized tampering or removal.
Examples of firmware that can be disabled include microphones, USB ports, on-board audio, SD card slots, cameras, Bluetooth, etc.
