Strategic’s March Employees of the Month

Every month, the employees at Strategic Communications are given the opportunity to acknowledge exemplary colleagues within or outside their department. Three individuals were chosen by their coworkers for their commitment to customer service, perseverance in the face of challenges, and can-do attitudes!

Sarah Shawhan | Accounts Receivable

• How long have you worked for Strategic Communications?

On April 24, it will be six months

• What was your background prior to working for Strategic Communications?

The majority of my professional background is in Marketing/Business Administration, and I also worked in Residential Real Estate for about three years.

• What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding or fulfilling?

I love receiving data and giving it structure. This is the first role I’ve held where this aspect of business is my primary job function and I absolutely love it!

• What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

Never be afraid to make a change, even if it means starting over. The time will pass anyway.

• Outside of work, what are you passionate about/enjoy doing?

I have twelve chickens and I completely adore eleven of them! I also enjoy spending time outside taking care of my flower garden.

• What is your current favorite TV Show, Podcast, or Book that you’d like to share with the world?

Ted Lasso and Schitt’s Creek are my favorite TV Shows. I also gravitate towards terrible reality TV shows (think train wrecks)

• What is something that people may not know about you?

I have identical twin brothers who are both Career Army. They both received Silver Stars on the same day while serving in Iraq in 2003 (commanding two different missions), both Purple Heart recipients (each caught shrapnel in their right knee) and both are Army Rangers. Dave served 29 years, retiring in May of 2022 as a U.S. Army Colonel and now serves as director of the U.S. Army Geospatial Center. Dan is a current Brigadier General serving as the commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, South Atlantic Division. I am extremely proud of them, and their service to our country.

Mike Johnson | Inside Sales Account Manager

• How long have you worked for Strategic Communications?

Less than 6 months.  I started in November 2023.

• What was your background prior to working for Strategic Communications?

I worked the previous 10 years in IT Sales, with the last 5 years working as the Inside Account Manager who handled Strategic Communications for TD Synnex.  Prior to that, I was an attorney.

• What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding or fulfilling?

The ability to help others and make a difference in the community.  The ability to determine your own success.  The people at SC also make my job enjoyable every day.  One of the main reasons I chose to come to work for SC was the people and the family culture.

• What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

Never quit and always work as had as you can.  Trade respect for respect, and trade loyalty for loyalty.  Always practice the proven method of treating others as you want to be treated.

• Outside of work, what are you passionate about/enjoy doing?

Golfing, gardening, and anything outdoors with the family.

• What is your current favorite TV Show, Podcast, or Book that you’d like to share with the world?

The Heist, Fargo, and Curb Your Enthusiasm

• What is something that people may not know about you?

I was a defense attorney on the first case in South Carolina to allow the admission of NPLEX records into evidence during a court case.  NPLEX stores the signature records for anyone that purchases Sudafed over the counter and has to sign before they are allowed to purchase.  Those records help keep track of who purchases the Sudafed, how many times they have purchased, and how many pills they have purchased, within any 30-day window.  The records can help authorities show a pattern, as Sudafed is one of the main ingredients used to manufacture methamphetamine.
